Cuban-American photojournalist, Lisette Poole, documented the 8,000 miles dangerous journey of two Cuban women from Havana to Texas via South America. They were among the last Cubans to cross the US border before the end of the “Wet Foot Dry Foot” policy that allowed Cubans entry to the USA if they could make it to the border.
The shortest route from Cuba to the U.S. is through the Florida Straits- only 90 miles. Unfortunately, for Liset Barrios that wasn’t an option because she’s afraid of boats. They had to go the long way via South America- a journey crossing through 13 countries covering 8,000 miles in 51 days.
